On Tuesday, October 28, the City’s Families, Parks and Recreation Department will host “Lights on After School” open houses at the City’s neighborhood or community centers to showcase the City’s after school programs. After school programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. In the U.S. today, 14.3 million children go home alone after school. Too many children are missing out on afterschool opportunities. These open houses are a part of the national Afterschool Alliance's eighth annual Lights on After School! This nationwide event calls attention to the importance of after school programs and the resources required to keep the lights on and the doors open.
The time of the open houses will vary at each center, with most of the open houses starting in the early evening hours. For specific times, please call the individual center.
